Mordants/Natural Dyes & Tannins

Mordants are substances which are used to set dyes on fabrics. Natural dyes don't adhere to natural fibres without the use of a mordant. It improves colour fastness and ensures you get a good colour range. The minerals are water soluble and there is also a natural mordant Symplocos. W

Take precautions such as not mixing pots which you use for dyeing with the ones you use for cooking. Wear gloves and a face mask. It is advised to work in a well ventilated area. Please dispose of used mordants carefully.
